Elton and I met at our first duty assignment December 1998 at Fort Lewis, Washington. My girlfriend was dating a friend of his and they had the bright idea that I should meet Elton on a blind date. I guess I was walking by faith and not by sight even though I had no clue what that meant back then. We hung out at a Christmas house party and connected over Lauryn Hill's song - Killing Me Softly With His Song. I sang in his ear while we slow-danced and he told me he would make me his queen. I write about our crazy story in my book Childlike Faith For Grown-Up Miracles. Shameless plug!! You can find it on Amazon. Order a copy today!
Less than six months after we met, Elton got orders to go to Ansbach, Germany. I think it was on the 4th of July that he mentioned it to me and asked if I wanted to go with him. We'd have to be in the Married Army Couples Program in order for me to get added to his orders. Somewhere in that conversation, he asked me if I wanted to get married to get the process started. I thought he was joking and tried to call his bluff by saying let's go buy the rings today. We went to Weisfield Jewelers in the mall and I walked out with a ring thinking what in the world. He was serious. We went to get a marriage license the next day and found out we'd have to wait three days before we could be officially married. My birthday is on the 8th of July and we got married on the 9th of July 1999. Well our 20-year anniversary is coming up in 2019 and we proposed that we do it again. Fairytale style. I hope you'll join us as we celebrate love that lasts against the odds. Copy and paste this link to your browser to receive an invitation: http://www.zola.com/addr/kbjoOgd8E
