This is absolutely our favorite restaurant in town. Feel free to stop in throughout the weekend for amazing cocktails and appetizers, homemade artisan bread and pasta, unique seasonal dishes, and desserts that are culinary works of art.
This is where it all began. Grab a drink at one of Flagstaff's favorite downtown cocktail bars, on the first floor of the historic Hotel Monte Vista. In the mornings, stop by for a coffee and some people watching. This will also quite possibly be the location of the Pre-Party Party After-Party on Friday evening.
Want to try mountain biking while you're here? Flagstaff and Sedona are world-renowned mountain bike destinations. Rent a bike from Flag Bike Rev, our favorite local bike shop. They'll get you set up proper and can help with trail recommendations.
You've heard of it, right? You've gotta check out the Grand Canyon while you're here. The South Rim is just over an hour away, and we recommend pack a lunch to make a day trip out of it. Some trail recommendations: Easy: You can walk for miles along the Rim Trail. It is accessible and paved. Moderate / Challenging: Truly experience the Canyon by dropping below the rim. We prefer either South Kaibab or Grandview Trails as they are slightly less crowded than Bright Angel Trail. Plan for about double the amount of time to climb back up as it does to descend. Be prepared, start early before it gets hot, bring plenty of water, and don't overestimate your fitness level on the way down.
If you have a few extra days and want a Grand Canyon experience with fewer crowds and more remote wilderness, the North Rim is for you. It's about a 4 hour drive from Flagstaff. Expect to get off the grid, have cooler weather, and get a more rugged feel.
Arizona's premeire ski destination (yes, you can ski in Arizona!). You can take the chair lift to the summit for amazing views, with the Grand Canyon visible on a clear day. Several great hikes leave from the Snowbowl parking lot, and the fall leaves should be in full color at the end of September: -Easy hike: The Arizona Trail - in a few miles, you'll cross through high mountain meadows and Aspen groves. -Moderate hike: Kachina trail - similar scenery as the Arizona trail, but a bit more technical -Challenging Hike: Humphrey's trail - Approximately 5.5 miles to the top of Humphrey's Mountain (11 roundtrip) Arizona's highest peak. Hiking to the saddle between Humphrey's and Agassiz Mountain is a few miles shorter and still a worthy outing.
