How We Met

The summer before our senior year of high school we were both selected to attend the Governor's Scholar's Program and ended up on the same campus. There isn't a ton to do on Morehead's campus as a 17 year old without a car, so we played a lot of cards....and twister (but that is another story entirely). I walked up to a group of guys and said "Hey, can I play with y'all?". Chandler looked up, smiled, scooted over, and said "Sure!" We hit it off from the start but, being from different counties, we didn't start dating right away and kept in touch throughout our senior year of high school. When it came time to make our college decisions, after several offers and a lot of thought on each of our parts, we were shocked that we had both decided to attend the University of Kentucky. As senior year was wrapping up, our senior proms were fast approaching. Chandler's was 2 weeks before mine, so obviously he had to ask first. About a month before prom, he FaceTimed me one night out of the blue and spelled out in candles was "Prom?". You see, it was too windy outside and the candles kept blowing out but Chan did what he does best, and that is improvise. He then asked me, holding a purple flower and wearing a bright purple bowtie, if I would go to his prom with him. Of course I said yes. So technically our first date was his senior prom. The day after prom, after begging my mom to let me stay in Somerset a little longer, Chandler was driving me home to my parents house an hour and a half away. So trapped in the car, I looked at him and said "So....what are we?" and the rest is history.

How He Asked

My family has been going to Florida on vacation every year for as long as I can remember. We love to go to St. George Island, it's our happy place where we can drop off the face of the Earth and just relax and spend time together before getting back to the real world. Once Chandler and I started dating in 2014, my family instantly fell in love with him and he was invited to start spending these vacations with us. In 2016 he visited our little island paradise for the first time and he too fell in love with our happy place. He became a fixture on these vacations and knew this was the place he was going to ask me to be his future wife. Just after we both graduated from college, my family vacation rolls around and instead of going to St. George island, we ended up in Miramar. So what does Chan do? He improvises. The days of our vacation are creeping by, I'm convinced he isn't going to ask (I may or may not have already known there was a ring). Then on the Thursday of our vacation, a few days before we go home, I wake up with a horrific allergic reaction. Yes, the day I look like a dog that tried to eat a bee. I took some Benadryl and spent the day in bed. Chandler was then able to get my entire family on board with his plan. Dinner time rolled around, and we were going to do our annual family beach pictures so I would dress up and think nothing of it. After dinner, we went to the beach my mom and stepdad had been married at 10 years prior. We were taking pictures and Chandler told me his mom wanted some pictures of just us. We start taking pictures then he looks at me and says it's time to move your ring. The ring in question is a Pandora ring he got me for our second Christmas that I wore on my left middle finger and never took off. I said "What?!", immediately burst into tears and he was on one knee. He then asked me to be his wife and all I could do is cry and nod my head yes. It wasn't St. George, it was still perfect.
