Freshman year of college, Chandler & Allison were asked to attend a scholarship meeting at their university. In the meeting, she had a planner, and he had no plan. At first, they were a bit perplexed by the other... But only a few weeks later, they became best friends and one could hardly be found without the other. Together, they hosted dinners with friends, variety shows, and a film festival. They acted in, directed, and produced many productions together. Many a late night was spent working in the theatre, or in the tractor supply parking lot eating Taco Bell with their closest friends. They loved discussing art, philosophy, faith, and Carol Burnett. Throughout the years, their haircuts changed, but their love for one another certainly didn't. After graduation, the two still found a way to follow each other no matter where the other one went.
These are the famous words spoken by Allison's grandmother (to Chandler) in her final days on this Earth. Although this wasn't the reason they started dating, it was the catalyst that made them wake up and take a good hard look at one another, and at their relationship. These two best friends/work partners had been following each other from state to state for seven years. But the summer of 2020, life was asking them to choose: should they go separate ways? Or stay together? It was during a conversation while eating the worst possible guacamole they had ever consumed, that Chandler said "ya know, if you wanted to get married tomorrow, I would do it..." He was shocked when Alli responded with, "What!?! If *you* wanted to get married tomorrow I would marry you." While Chandler meant what he said, he was not expecting Alli to be on board. In fact, he thought she was going to laugh at the absurdity, but that was not at all how she felt. After a tiny panic attack on Chandler's side (who are we kidding-- a full fledged, hysterical laughter, lack of breathing, water spitting, panic attack, all because he thought he was going to get married to his best friend in the entire world right there at lunch, with concerned waiters staring at him, and the worst possible guacamole ever created), Allison calmed down the hysterical drama queen (actors, am I right?). She quickly corrected him by saying "Whoa boy, if we ever get married you're gonna date me first..." (What a boss babe!). He calmed down, took a drink of water, ate another chip, and said, "yeah...That's what I want. I want to date you." Allison took some time to think, journal, and pray, and that evening on a beach in New Smyrna, Florida (where her whole family loves to vacation) she said: "Chan, I would like to date you, too." They smiled, laughed at the absurdity of the situation --recognizing their newfound spark-- grabbed each others hands, and haven't let go since.
It was August 2020, and the two moved in with Chandler's family in Kentucky. The previous summer, they had relocated to Chandler's hometown to open a theatre company. Unfortunately, as true for many others, COVID-19 halted their dreams and caused them to lose their jobs. Amidst these setbacks, the two chose to further their education. Allison --director, teacher, and artist-- was admitted into The Shakespeare Institute at Stratford Upon Avon, in England. There, she is remotely earning her Masters. Chandler --professional actor, coach, chef, and designer extraordinaire (what a catch, eh?)-- began teaching himself interior design and whipping up extravagant, multiple course meals for the whole family, all while training for highly competitive MFA auditions for schools like Juilliard, RADA, and NYU. Daily, they worked tirelessly. Even with both of their gracious families' support, they still struggled. 2020, as for so many, threw obstacle after obstacle at them, pushing them to an all time low. But, on the evening of November 2nd, something happened. They closed their laptops, put down their plays, turned to one another and asked: "What are we even doing here?" Feeling defeated, they began to pray with one another. They exposed the innermost parts of their hearts and souls. While crying together, they revealed their true feelings. It was during this special time that Allison and Chandler discovered they were not alone, and hadn't been for some time. They recognized that the other person had been divinely placed in their life. That they saw, understood, and loved them completely. No matter how hard life would be or was, they didn't have to do it alone. They wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. So, with no money and no ring (just Love), they got engaged. "What are we even doing here...?" "We're getting married, silly....So pass the Guac."
