What time should I arrive at the ceremony?

Answer

The ceremony will start at 4PM so we ask that guests plan on arriving by 3:30 PM to park and find a comfortable seat.

Is there a dress code?

Answer

Semi-formal is a dress code that falls between casual and formal wear. This typically means gowns, cocktail dresses, dressy jumpsuits, suit and tie, a blazer and dress pants, tailored separates, or a blazer and vest combination.

Is there parking for the ceremony or reception?

Yes! There is plenty of parking on-site.

What is it like getting to the venue? Will I drive on a dirt road to get there?

Answer

A goal of choosing this venue was to disconnect from the urban life and reconnect with nature! Most of the trip from Austin to the venue is on highway 290, but the final leg of the trip will be on a short dirt road as you arrive at the venue. If you're coming from Austin, you'll take 290 West past Johnson City. If you're arriving from San Antonio, you'll take 281 North to Johnson City and will join 290 West. Shortly after passing through Johnson City you will turn right on Towhead Valley Rd and drive roughly 2 miles before you hit a fork in the road. Turn left and continue driving for 1.5 miles until you find the Walden Retreats entrance on your right. Please drive slowly and enjoy the scenery. You may see cows, goats, and other natural splendor! What type of shoes should I wear?

Answer

Walden Retreats is in a rural area and their property consists of gravel roads, dirt paths and grassy spaces. Please wear comfortable shoes with this in mind. The ceremony will be outside but the reception and dancing will happen indoors.

Can I bring a date?

Answer

No, the RSVP you received is just for you. We are trying to keep this wedding more focused and intimate. Thank you for understanding!

Do you have any hotel recommendations?

Answer

Yes, Carter Creek Winery Resort & Spa is just 7 minutes down the road. A wedding block can be found under the Drummond-Coats name. Please see the Travel & Lodging page for more details.

Will you have transportation to and from Walden Retreats and Carter Creek?

Answer

Yes we will have a hired shuttle from Hill Country Wine Tours on the Wedding night that will pick up guests at Carter Creek guest reception at 3:15 PM and will drop off guests at Walden Retreats at 3:30-3:45 PM so you are ready for the 4 PM ceremony! If you want to use the shuttle, please be ready at Carter Creek guest reception - the same location you checked-in and received your room keys. They will also be taking guests back to Carter Creek at 10 PM after the reception ends.

What's on the menu?

Answer

The main dinner options will consist of braised short ribs and confit salmon, while vegetarian guests will have an edamame acorn squash dish prepared for them. Sides include tomato jam potatoes, chimichurri carrots, and an asian-style caesar salad. Rolls and citrus-infused butter round out the menu.
