I first met Chanty at the University cafeteria. Our introduction was brief but ever since then, I always said hello whenever we ran into each other. I was a taken man before so I had no intention of "making moves" with her—and I never gave that impression either. And yet, there was an awkwardness in our interactions, as she would sometimes ignore me and walk on by when I said hello, or be short in our conversations. She even denied my friend request on Facebook! After that, I most frequently saw Chanty during her spoken word performances around campus. She's very talented and her poems were always deep and exceptionally delivered. With that talent, her brisk-paced confident walk and apparently aloof attitude towards my existence—I thought she was either bougie or she highly disliked me. I saw her that way for over 3 years, even when it turned out that we had many of the same close friends. And though we often saw each other, we rarely interacted. It was at a surprise party for our friend Marielsy, that my interest in her would begin to flourish to a greater extent than before. We knew everyone at the party except one another. She sat next to me and by then I was a single man; I ain't gonna lie, she was lookin' like a baddie! That night Chanty and I learned that we had a lot in common. And it turns out that she was just a very distracted, confident woman—how dare I think that she was bougie?! At the suggestion of Marielsy, we decided to meet up again to better know each other. Our next meeting evolved into endless conversations, fun times spent together, and our eventual commitment to each other on the evening of December 24, 2016. Chanty and I have grown from and supported each other at some of our lowest points, and understand each other deeply. She is my gift from God—my "Ride or Die." We've had our share of challenges, but through it all we've never stopped loving each other, and God-willing, we never will. Hence, we've decided to seal the deal!
