On the day we met, Jonathan spent the entire day moving into his new apartment and had some friends help him. He wanted to thank his friends by bringing them to David's Mai Lai Wah, which is known to be a late night 3am Chinese restaurant with amazing salt and pepper chicken wings. Meanwhile, I was at Rumor nightclub at a Gareth Emery show with Ann's good friend Simon, and after the show, we headed to David's Mai Lai Wah. On the way there, Simon sped around Chinatown trying to find a parking spot and some guy honked and cursed at us (later to find out this was Jonathan). At the front of the tiny restaurant were a dozen people waiting to get a table for late night food. After waiting awhile, Simon left me at the front to go say hi to friends already eating. Jonathan was waiting with his friend Gabe Carryon, and out of nowhere we sparked a conversation. He flirted and I bluntly asked him if he had a thing for asian girls or something. We laughed and then my table was ready. Jonathan said, I think your boyfriend is waving to you," and I said, "That's just a family friend." Jonathan quickly responded with, "Well in that case, can I have your number?" To this day, I constantly think about how we had no connections, except for a special spark that has kept us going.
