Our story began slowly, but from the very start, we felt an undeniable connection—one that made it clear we never wanted to be apart. Chalmers had just moved to Omaha, my hometown, for work after completing Electrical Lineman School in Georgia, and I had just started my second year of nursing school. We chatted back and forth for the month he was here, until we decided to meet up. Our first date was a casual one, actually one that people scare you out of, but it was at Chalmers apartment! When I first arrived at Chalmers' apartment, the only piece of furniture he had was a single reclining chair—no decorations yet. Yet, it didn’t matter. As we stood in his empty kitchen, chatting over a heart-to-heart conversation, it felt as though we had known each other forever. There was no awkwardness, no forced small talk—just a surprising ease between two strangers meeting for the first time. That moment, with all its simplicity, was when we both realized this was something special. As time passed, we both grew alongside each other. It wasn’t long before Chalmers asked me to be a part of his life as his girlfriend. We went on dates, and one that stands out was a trip to Hiro 88, where we both fell in love with sushi. But it wasn’t just the dates or the growing closeness that made our bond stronger—it was the way we began to build a life together, step by step. Chalmers’ apartment, once so empty, started to feel more like home. I wanted to make his space more inviting, so we began shopping for furniture, picking out pieces that would give the place warmth and character. Over the next few months, his apartment evolved into our apartment, a true reflection of our shared life and love. It was in this new home that we made another big decision - we had the opportunity to get a puppy, Milo, a bundle of energy who quickly became a central part of our world. But our family wasn’t complete yet. A few months later, we decided to add another dog, Boomer, and with that, our little family felt complete - from a dog aspect. From the very start, Milo and Boomer have been by our sides, offering companionship and loyalty through all the highs and lows. They were more than just pets—they were symbols of our growing life together, a reminder that everything we were building was something solid and enduring. Looking back, it feels like everything we’ve created—our home, our love, our family—has been built from the ground up. That's our love story, a story of two people, starting with nothing but a connection, and growing into something beautiful with each passing day.
