One might ask how did an engineer come to meet a film maker in college? First, I'll give credit where credit is due. Mom said I should join the ski team in college. And she was right! The specifics though, have been the subject of debate for over a decade...I say it was up in Mammoth skiing. He says it was at an east coast vs west coast party hosted by a ski team friend. But he knows I was decked out in head to toe red sox gear, and I may have had a beverage or two, so maybe just this once, he is right. Either way, this skier and this snowboarder began to get along (just stay off my moguls!)...and through college and long distance and losses endured, we have always loved and cared for each other deeply.
We met in 2007 and began dating in 2008. Fast forward to July 2019. At this point I have zero expectations whatsoever. Colleagues, family, friends wonder if it's ever going to happen. I do not - I know that Nelson is mysterious and takes his time! So why would I think our annual trip up to Rainbow island in Canada would be any different than the past decade? But it so was - after cooking a big spaghetti dinner for friends and family (that would make his Dad Tony proud! See the photos tab), we all went to look at the sunset on west rock. Well some did. Nelson and I decided to canoe over ;) Thank you to May Iosotaluno, our dear friend who happens to be a brilliant wedding photographer - for capturing this beautiful moment of us in the red canoe, when we finally did decide to take 'the plunge' (no, I surprisingly did not capsize us, and the ring is safe). See the photos tab for all the moments captured!
No matter how hectic life gets, or what other vacations we have planned, Nelson and I have an unspoken understanding, a tradition that we hold dear in our relationship - that we will always make time for Rainbow. It has been a tradition in his family for generations, and I look forward to it longingly every year (starting with when I leave it!). There is no doubt that Nelson and I both are subject to its magical pull - our hearts grow happy and carefree there, much like we are returning to childhood as soon as we set foot on the soft pine needle laden paths, feel the wind through its wind-bent trees, and the water lapping at south rock. Despite being surprised beyond belief by the proposal (yes, I had no clue it was coming, none at all) - I always knew it would happen here, where we are both at home and in our happiest, truest element.
This site is dedicated to our beloved baby Chai, our cat who brought us deep joy for over a decade. Nelson and I were devastated to lose our baby last fall - and felt the need to honor her as part of our wedding. The joke has always been that I'm a crazy cat lady, but the truth is - we both are, we always have been, crazy mad in love with Chai - in a way no words can truly do justice. We love you and miss you every day. Please visit the photos tab for some of our memories with her <3
