If you walk towards the football field at Stonehill College, you will see a path that leads into the woods, and at the end of this path stands a desolate brick building. This building is referred to on signage as the Holy Cross Center, but to those who know it as the “SEM,” it was Stonehill’s purgatory. The only off-campus dormitory used solely to house overflow from an incoming freshman class. While most viewed being placed in this higher education Alcatraz as a curse, it was here that we first met, and will forever look back upon with fond memories. We shared a group of mutual friends from Day 1 and somewhere between those long weekend nights, Spanish class 830am on Mondays, and those same friends saying, “what are you two waiting for?”, we both started to think our friendship could be something more. We started dating the summer after freshman year and after our first date— that was not only great tasting, but a great value— at TGI Fridays, we never looked back.
The college years were filled with good times. At Stonehill, we took several of the same classes together over the years to split the price of books and cheat easier…. I mean, be together. The pinnacle of our academic achievement came with a shared presentation on the interpretation of women’s beauty in different countries. If that last sentence does not showcase the importance of a college education for someone who wants to study business, we don’t know what does. Outside of school Chris pushed Casey to be the best person she could be, which primarily consisted of getting her license. After 2 years of driving back and forth from Norton and one driving lesson in the Comcast Center, Chris’ biggest red flag was finally addressed. A lesser man may have given up, but when you find a woman who cashes in cans on the weekends to take you to the movies, you don’t let go. And although there were some roller coaster moments in college (joint 21st birthdays are never a good idea), we both graduated with the feeling this was only the beginning for us as individuals, and more importantly as a couple.
After college, we both entered the corporate world to begin our careers and the 99 Restaurant trivia circuit as “Gimpy & the Brain”, an ode to Casey’s Gordon Hayward-esque ankle injury senior year. Hall of Fame induction expected 2052. We both shared a love for travel as a way to keep in touch with college friends, see the world, and share experiences together. Bill Murry once said “If you have someone you think is the one, take them and travel around the world. Buy a plane ticket for the two of you to travel all over, to places that are hard to reach and hard to get out of. And when you land at JFK and you're still in love with that person, get married.” Traveling always brought us closer together and somewhere between sleeping overnight at a Legal Seafoods in the DC airport, and witnessing vehicular manslaughter in Costa Rica, we both knew we were getting married, it was only a matter of when. In May 2018 we took a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Italy and after 8 years of dating, we finally got engaged! We have been looking forward to our wedding day for quite some time and are beyond excited to share it with our friends and family. You're not gonna want to miss this one.
