Königssee is a large, clear lake known for its stunning beauty and iconic St. Bartholomew church located on a peninsula. Surrounded by the picturesque hiking trails of the Berchtesgaden Alps, this destination offers a serene escape in nature. The area also features family-run hotels offering cozy rooms and delicious Bavarian and international cuisine.

Perched at an elevation of 1834 meters (6,017 feet), The Eagle's Nest was originally built as a mountain retreat for Hitler and has since been repurposed into a restaurant with stunning panoramic views. Accessible only by a special shuttle bus from the Kehlsteinhaus bus station, this historic site boasts a rich World War II history and was once used by top officials of the Third Reich regime.

Salt Mine Berchtesgaden offers a family-friendly tour of a 1500s salt mine, featuring miners' slides, a salt lake, and an illuminated grotto. Once owned by Berchtesgaden's princely rulers, the mine now welcomes visitors to experience its rich history. The hour-long tour includes a ride on a miniature train deep into the mountain, where an enormous chamber reveals the mining process.

Neuschwanstein Castle, a 19th-century hilltop fortress commissioned by King Ludwig II, is a must-see attraction nestled in the Bavarian Alps near the Austrian border. It's one of Germany's most visited sites and offers tours of its lavishly furnished rooms. While it's a popular tourist spot, some travelers recommend exploring other day trips from Munich for a more rewarding experience.

Once you reach the forest's edge, take the path to the right towards Ettal mill. Before reaching Gasthof Ettaler Muhle, cross the asphalt road leading to Linderhof Castle and follow signs back to Oberammergau. This route leads through the scenic nature reserve Weidmoos and past Bunting springs.
