How We Met

"Anything you can do I can do better"

We met in high school. I played soccer, he played soccer. He awkwardly stared at me through windows during lunch time and called me "pretty eyes". I would sprint to my mom's SUV after school to avoid him. I always told him he was a flirt. He agreed. The girls high school soccer team won CIF and placed 2nd in state...GIRL POWER!! I always rub this in (hence anything he can do I can do better) ...but he DID make a name for himself on the boys soccer team with his pretty curls and love for the game. We remained friends through high school and then through college. During college, I encouraged him to get back on the field following his injuries and he would take the time to make me smile when I was feeling blue. I was always amazed at his ability to move to California from Peru at the age of 14 and learn a whole new language. He finished college, I wouldn't miss his graduation for anything. December 2018 came and it was a whirlwind of excitement. We celebrated his birthday, he asked me to a few terrible movies...the kind of horror movies that are so bad that you walk out of the theater thinking what just happened, we went bowling (I won of course) and he stared at me a little bit too long after the game ended (it was the first time I had EVER seen him nervous), he played romantic Romeo Santos songs (while I tried convincing him Enrique Iglesias is better) and gave me his most prized possession (his unwrapped Romeo Santos CD). A few days passed and we went out with friends to look at Christmas lights. Following this excursion, he took me out to Chio's (Peruvian restaurant) where he asked me to be his girlfriend). It was a December filled with love 🤍

The Proposal

"a whole new world, a dazzling place I never knew"

After surviving our hike to Humantay Lake, Rainbow Mountain, and driving around to see some of his old stomping grounds, on August 5, 2021, he took me to one of the 7 wonders of the world...Machu Picchu! Once we were at the top, he got down on one knee and proposed in front of his family. Of course I said "YES!!" and then we quickly took pictures before getting in trouble with security for having a giant "will you marry me" sign at the top of Machu Picchu. 😅 We're so excited to celebrate this next chapter in our adventure book with you! See you beneath the giant redwoods! 🌲
