With family pictures on the National Monument planned that morning, the day began at a local coffee shop. As we enjoyed our drinks, Sara with her black tea and me with my heavily caffeinated coffee (not that I needed any more energy), I received a phone call from Alex, asking if Sara and I could "help set up pictures." We met them at the base of the monument where we decided to hop into their car, big mistake. With my dad driving, and of course, right in front of him, a tourist going 5mph, I was praying Sara would make it to the top without being sick for the next year. After 20 minutes of nervous sweating from both of us, but for drastically different reasons, we finally made it to Cold Shivers Point (didn't realize the name until later that night). Alex asked if we could stand by this tree "she picked out the week before" so she could adjust for the lighting. Seeing the fresh powder on each tree branch and the cherry red cheeks on my beautiful girlfriend, I was becoming more sweaty by the minute. Nervously standing on the rock below Sara, asking myself how I would normally act if Alex was really setting up for pictures, I realized everything in the past 7.52 years has led us to this perfect moment, and all nervousness faded. Alex said she needed one more picture. I took a knee, looked up, and asked Sara to marry me. Instant tears surfaced in Sara's eyes and to my delight, a loving "yes."
