Ruben and his friends would frequent a local bar and grill that I worked at. We officially met when my roommate and Ruben's best friend started dating. All of us would hangout just about every other day. Ruben asked for my number and we started talking and texting. We hit it off from the very start! Despite our age difference, we have plenty in common! We both share a love for music, movies, and whiskey! We have been in a relationship for nine and a half years and we have 2 beautiful daughters. We have decided that IT'S ABOUT TIME to tie the knot!
No, there weren't fireworks. There wasn't a big crowd. There weren't flowers or any of that frilly stuff. It was just us, with our kids. Getting ready for date night. My hair was a mess, the kids were a mess, the house was a mess, it was ALL A MESS. Ruben was just about ready... before me, like always. Because if you know me, I have never been on time a day in my life. But, back to the story. I was getting the kids ready to go to Memaw's house. Ruben comes into the room and asks me if I've ever heard the song, "Waiting on a Woman" by Brad Paisley? I say, "No, not that I can recall." So, he pulls up YouTube and plays the music video for me. I sit there with the kids and watch it. By the end of the video I am crying my eyes out asking him why he would show me that right before I have to put my makeup on?! He gets down on one knee and starts to tell me that he would spend the rest of his life waiting on me and that he wouldn't even mind. He tells me how much he loves me and then he pulls out the most beautiful ring and asks me to marry him! I freak out and shout YES! Rileigh is jumping up and down, so excited! We hug and kiss and hug some more, and then I stop and laugh and say, "why right now, when I look like this, and we have all this mess around us?" To which he responds, "because, this is our life, our home, our little family, and it felt right, it's perfect." And just like that, we were engaged!
