Formal. Don't be afraid of color, we'll be in a garden!
Edith Wharton was a Pulitzer prize-winning author and one of the most influential American writers of the early 20th century. She is known for novels like "The Age of Innocence," "Ethan Frome," (Matt's least favorite book), and "The House of Mirth" (famously spoiled for Cecilia by another, more contemporary book she was reading at the same time). She wrote with sharp insight about society and identity. The Mount was her beloved home and the first house she designed herself. She was inspired by European architecture and gardens, and wanted her home to be harmonious and beautiful. We encourage you to check out the library in the house, which still contains many books that were in her personal collection.
