Spend some time making new friends (books!) or enjoying a coffee at one of our favorite shops in Lexington.
The drive to Shakertown is beautiful, as is the historic site itself. Bonus: the bride's dad, Ralph Sallee, worked here in college and shared many hilarious stories with Courtney growing up — and this is where Christopher took Courtney for engagement photos with their friend and photographer Scarlett.
Visit Coffee Times for some local coffee or loose-leaf tea (they can serve it by the cup or pot, or just take some dry leaves to go), then duck into the adjoining vintage store Street Scene for some retro fashion, decor or sweets.
A chocolate-lover's dream coffee shop. Looking for some great local coffee? We also recommend its sister shop, A Cup of Common Wealth, located just a block away at 105 Eastern Avenue.
Through December 31, the Kentucky Horse Park offers a nightly view of elaborate holiday light displays called Southern Lights from 5:30-10 p.m. Admission is $25 per car on Fridays and Saturdays; Sunday through Thursday evening admission is $15.
Pizza buffet and arcade! Great for kids (or when Christopher wants cheap pizza and Courtney wants to light up the mini basketball game).
Decent shopping and good food. The Barn food court offers some great local restaurants, including Athenian Grill, Crank & Boom Ice Cream, Atomic Ramen and Smithtown Seafood. Also inside is The Pasture, a restaurant sourced from Garrard County's own Marksbury Farm, down the road from Courtney's childhood home.
