He Was Looking for an Apartment…and Found a Wife

Chrissy Cavotta and Mitch Mickovic have a very unconventional story about how they met, OVER THE PHONE.

In 2022, Chrissy was working in leasing at The May in Downtown Cleveland’s Public Square. At the time, Mitch was searching for a new apartment and happened to inquire about living at The May. The lead came through, and Chrissy reached out hoping to lease an apartment to a prospective resident — never imagining that the man she was about to call would become her husband in 2026. Chrissy first called Mitch on St. Patrick’s Day. With lots of loud background noise on the other end, Mitch explained he was out celebrating and asked her to call back on Monday. Meanwhile, Mitch was impressed that Chrissy was working on a holiday. In true Chrissy fashion, she followed up that Monday, determined to make the sale. What started as a conversation about The May’s amenities quickly turned into a 45-minute phone call about Little Italy, mutual friends, Chrissy growing up in Aurora, Mitch growing up in Twinsburg right next door, spending summers at Aurora Shores, their shared Sicilian heritage, and the fact that Mitch once had Señora Cavotta as his Spanish teacher… for exactly one week before dropping the class for Mandarin Chinese (apparently “way easier” than Spanish — haha). Just when they thought the coincidences couldn’t get any crazier, they connected the dots and realized that Chrissy’s Aunt Marilyn Cavotta had dated Mitch’s Grandpa Bob Mickovic in high school. Unreal. By the end of the call, Mitch asked, “Would you like to grab a glass of wine sometime?” Chrissy replied, “You don’t even know what I look like…” To which Mitch said, “I don’t care — I really loved our conversation.” To this day, Chrissy’s dad, Joe, is convinced Mitch had already Googled her. At the time, Chrissy wasn’t exactly looking to date, but she gave Mitch her Instagram anyway. After four months of DM’s, dozens of phone calls, and plenty of persistence from Mitch like the salesman he is, Chrissy finally agreed to a date. (If you want to know the tagline Mitch used to finally convince her, ask us at the dinner — we’ll share!) Their “first date” consisted of Mitch stopping by Chrissy and Deana’s house on Summit Drive with Mama Santa’s cavatelli and White Claws for everyone, hanging out on the porch with Charlie (Deana’s dog). Charlie immediately approved of Mitch, so Chrissy figured he had to be a good guy. At one point during the night, Mitch looked at Deana and said, “I would make this girl my wife someday.” Mitch says he knew right away that Chrissy was "The One." Smash cut to 2026… and here we are. We cannot wait to celebrate our love with each and every one of you!
