The first time Wendell and Lenisha met it was "love at first sight." Or at least for one of them. They were introduced by their dear friends Jennille and Lionel who knew it would be "a match made in heaven." Unfortunately for Wendell, Lenisha didn't think so when they met in Wholefoods on their way to his spoken word performance. The two became good friends, attending the same bible study and other events alongside their good friends. For Wendell, it was a long year of persistent and consistent prayer and pursuit. For Lenisha it was a long year of battling with God between what she wanted and what she knew deep down she needed. Finally, after ignoring God’s call to a relationship for so long, Lenisha decided that what God had for her must be better than what she wanted for herself and on October 12, 2015 after a long day trip with just the two of them to Staten Island, they made it official and stepped into what God longed to put together.

On the night of Lenisha's 30th birthday, moments before she arrived to her murder mystery 30th birthday dinner, she cried to God in repentance for expecting an engagement to occur. She asked God to forgive her for placing expectation in front of His timing and moved forward peacefully to enjoy her night as God had ordained it. Little did she know that for almost a year, Wendell had been planning to propose on this day with witnesses of family and friends. She hadn't known about the many nights he admired the ring and prayed to God for their future union. So as the night progressed, and the murder mystery dinner was coming to a close, toasts were given by her family and friends, and Wendell was up next. He took the platform to explain what he disliked most about her, and with the crowds questionable thoughts about where this speech was going, Wendell got on one knee and asked Lenisha to be his wife.
