Cathy and Eric met through mutual friends while living in Chicago in 2011. They bonded over pho, baby raccoon videos, and a shared—though still unfulfilled—ambition to read all of In Search of Lost Time. The subsequent seven years included several of long distance—Cathy moved to pursue a Master’s Degree—as well as several years together in Chicago and then New York, where we now live.
The Berkshires are special to us for a few reasons. Eric grew up in Massachusetts, and Cathy spent four childhood years in the Boston area. More recently, Cathy completed her Master’s Degree at Williams College, where Eric visited her often. Now that they live in New York, Western Mass—with its obvious and abundant charm—is an easy escape from the city. The Mount is the estate of writer Edith Wharton. As well as being a writer, Wharton cared much about architecture and design. She built the estate according to aesthetic principals from her own treatise on interior design. Most important of all, it is a beautiful space that we are excited to share with our guests.
