How Our Love Story Began

It All Started With a Swipe Right

Our story began on Hinge during the height of COVID — a time when dating meant masked faces, awkward distancing, and a lot of guesswork. Cathy thought Andres was cute, but she wasn’t quite sure who she was swiping on — every photo on his profile looked like a different person, and the last one was just... a plate of tacos. (Solid taco game, though.) Still, something about his smile — and maybe the tacos — intrigued her enough to say yes to a dinner date at a Korean BBQ restaurant. The night of the date, she struggled to find parking and wasn’t even sure where the restaurant entrance was. After finally finding a spot, Cathy made her way toward what she thought was the front entrance — and only saw an Asian man crouched down, smoking a cigarette. He looked like he might have worked there. Hesitant but hopeful, she approached and asked, “Andres?” Startled, the man frantically replied, “WHAT?! No no no no!” Embarrassed but determined, Cathy asked, “Then where’s the front entrance?!” He pointed in the opposite direction. After a slightly panicked detour, she finally found the real entrance — and the real Andres, waiting by the fountain with a smile. She asked once more, “Andres?” and this time, the answer was a warm and familiar “Hey.” Over dinner, they connected effortlessly — talking, laughing, and discovering that they were basketball rivals (which only added to the spark). Neither of them wanted the night to end, so Andres suggested grabbing boba afterwards. One dinner turned into hours of conversation, laughter, and a sense that something special had just begun. What started with a few mixed signals and a suspicious taco photo turned into the beginning of forever.
