Our love story began to unfold at the South Christian High School football game on October 7, 2022. Despite his intense concentration on the game, Nate couldn't help but be distracted by the new girl on the sidelines with long, blonde hair. Little did he know, she had already concocted a plan with the hopes of getting to meet him. At the time, Cat worked as a physical therapist for a company located in Caledonia, MI. One of her co-workers - an athletic trainer for the company - happened to work closely with the South Christian High School athletes and coaching staff. Being friends, the subject of dating came up within conversations here and there, with her friend once mentioning there being "a few single football coaches." Intrigued, they formed a plan for Cat to come hang out on the sidelines. Cat also just happened to need to assist with a marketing event to represent her company, so what better way to do that by attending a football game and helping out on the sidelines? Cat was the first to notice Nate on the sidelines, while he was passionately engrossed in his coaching role. She was immediately captivated by his handsome charm and his backwards hat. Nate did eventually notice Cat during the game, both of them sneaking glances across the sidelines. Her plan was working. Little did she know, she would soon fall in love with more than just a handsome man with a backwards hat, but a loving, caring and goofy soul who would eventually become her husband. Nate, also being friends with the athletic trainer, later texted her asking "who was the blonde?" on the sidelines. Eventually, phone numbers were exchanged with an immediate request by Nate for a date. Their first date was November 9, 2022 at Nate's favorite Mexican restaurant in Holland, per Cat's request of a restaurant with good mango margaritas. Nate says he knew the date was going well when she felt comfortable enough to lean against the side of the booth and kick her legs up on the booth seat. Captivated, Cat continued to follow Nate and Sailor football all the way to a successful State Championship on November 25, 2022. Later that night after their win, Nate asked Cat to be his girlfriend, and their adventure together began.
