Will and I met volunteering one summer at Camp Joy in the mountains of North Carolina. We got to know one another well during that week but ultimately parted ways and returned to our hometowns . I was eager to begin my senior year of high school and Will returned to college. We talked regularly and made a few weekend trips to visit. As my freshman year of college approached we drifted apart despite Will's valiant effort to pursue a relationship. Will is patient and persistent, he made sure that we kept in touch over a period of 6 years, but, timing was never quite right for us and the thought of a long-distance relationship scared me. Shortly after I graduated college my friends and I bought tickets to a concert near Charleston, coincidentally the same day Will sent me a video of himself and some friends on the lake. I replied back and invited them to meet us in Charleston. I gave him the information and he seemed excited to go (even though he had already bought a ticket the week prior *eye roll*). This brave soul joined my friends and I on the beach and even though we hadn’t seen one another in years, we picked up right where we left off. After the concert we made plans to see one another on July 4th, which led to weekend after weekend driving to see one another. Later that summer he worked up the courage, for the third time in our lives, to ask me to be his girlfriend. I believe his words were “do you want to make this thing official?” We realized fairly quickly that the time spent apart was all part of God’s plan. Our hearts and minds were being transformed as God worked around and within us. In March Will planned to ask another question, one I would answer without hesitation! Looking back, our story is a perfect example of Isaiah 60:22 "When the time is right, I, the Lord will make it happen." we cling to this as we reflect on the lengthy journey we took to get where we are today. We're beyond excited to celebrate this next chapter with our loved ones!
