Things To Do

Panoply Arts Festival

This is one of the biggest arts festivals in North Alabama that happens right in Big Spring Park in Downtown Huntsville. Three days of fun, food, and art. And it just happens to be going on the same weekend as our wedding. What more could you ask for?

HSV Comic Con

700 Monroe Street Southwest, Huntsville, AL 35801

See William Shatner and "Weird Al" Yankovic at Huntsville's 10th Annual Comic & Pop Culture Expo! The Expo is a family-friendly 3-day event in the heart of beautiful downtown Huntsville celebrating all things Comic & Pop Culture! The show will include special celebrity guests, tons of vendors, artists, authors, discussion panels, and much more!

Hiking at Monte Sano State Park

5105 Southeast Nolen Avenue, Huntsville, AL 35801

This is one of Catherine’s favorite places to hike and run. Catherine and Peter have some history on the “Mist Opportunity” trail. Catherine organized a hike for their Bible study and only Peter and one other person ended up hiking together. Thankfully, Peter didn’t miss that opportunity to start to get to know her, though he was disappointed it wasn’t just the two of them on the hike. Pro Tip: park just off the road (Fearn St) and use the Bankhead Pkwy Trailhead to find even more hiking trails.

Gold Sprint

2515 9th Avenue Southwest, Huntsville, AL 35805

Best coffee in Huntsville. Light food available. Catherine recommends the dirty chai, avocado toast, and the veggie sandwich.

Viet Cuisine

210 Jordan Lane Northwest, Huntsville, AL 35805

Great lunch spot! Delicious Vietnamese food, solid service.

The Nook

3305 Bob Wallace Avenue Southwest, Huntsville, AL 35805

Great outdoor patio with a great selection of beer. Peter and our friend, Gabe Stolaas, often enjoy their mead when they’re not drinking Peter’s home brews.

SiP Fine Spirits & Cigar Lounge

111 Greene Street Northeast, Huntsville, AL 35801

Best cocktail bar in Huntsville (though Chuco Underground might be a close second). Think classic New York City cocktail bar with the fun, snarky, and creative bartenders to boot. The last time Peter and Catherine went there, we had an espresso martini that had been flavored with sesame oil. Catherine recommends their Manhattan. Peter recommends their Old Fashioned. Please note: this is also a cigar lounge, though the main bar is non-smoking and well ventilated.

South Huntsville Public Library

7901-L Bailey Cove Road Southeast, Huntsville, AL 35802

Check out (no pun intended) the Friends of the Library book stores inside most of the libraries in Madison County to see what treasures you might find. However, fair warning: Peter has probably already cleaned out most of their philosophy and religion sections.
