We met in our first grade class at Parkview Elementary school. We were sworn enemies in the very beginning...Catherine was a tomboy and Jenna was a girly girl, obviously they could never be friends. After first grade, we didn't speak again (because...enemies) until fifth grade, when we were re-introduced at a paint your own pottery place! We painted tic-tac-toe boards. And since, by then, we were equally strange art queens, we decided we shan't be enemies anymore and our friendship blossomed! We became absolutely inseparable best friends through middle school and high school...too inseparable...our friends always joked about how we seemed to be in love, and our parents questioned if we were dating frequently, but we laughed it off. Secretly, we both wanted it to be true. Since we were too afraid to lose the other's friendship, we hid our feelings for YEARS. Our summers were spent constantly by each other side, listening to love songs in the car, writing love letters to each other and then ripping them up, and insufferable amounts of yearning, pining, and longing. We both thought it was a completely unrequited feeling and could never come to fruition. Until...the very end of our senior year. On May 25, 2021, we planned a two-person prom since we could never have one because of COVID. On the morning of, we both had a weird feeling that something was gonna change. After an evening of matching emerald green outfits, flower exchanges, and driving around listening to The One That Got Away by Katy Perry, Jenna decided it was now or never. She couldn't live not knowing if her best friend maybe felt the same. In the car in the parking lot of a convenience store, Jenna confessed her feelings, and there was never a greater moment than when Catherine said she felt the same. Angels sung. The world shifted into place. We have been deliriously happy ever since.
After agreeing to propose to each other around the same time in January, Catherine crafted a sneaky, secret plan. On an unsuspecting Saturday in December, Catherine led Jenna to their favorite spot in Central Park (the gazebo where the turtles are). Jenna thought they were just going eat coffee cake muffins and people watch. But the moment we sat down and a saxophone player started playing La Vie En Rose (a song near and dear to our hearts), Catherine nervously told Jenna to put her muffin down, scrambling for the box in her purse. Jenna immediately yelled "WHAT ARE YOU DOING!" (as she did NOT anticipate being the one who got asked first) and Catherine asked a very important question. Jenna said yes!
