It was a classic hot summer day in Miami. Chelsie was cleaning glasses, cutting limes and dancing to the morning playlist at the bar in Juvia, the restaurant where we both worked. At the hostess stand outside, I was cleaning the menus before opening. Eventually, I couldn’t take the heat and decided to finish up inside, taking a seat at the bar. It was the first time we met, we started talking and hit it off… it was hard to explain, but something just clicked. I finished up and went back to the stand… it would be a while before we would talk again. A few weeks later, I became a cocktail waitress. The money was better, the job was more fun, but the best part? Chelsie had to train me. It was Chelsie’s job to evaluate whether or not I’d be good for the role. When she looks back at that time, she remembers me as a stoner hippie (which was far from the truth). I remember her as the bubbly bartender who was patiently telling me what to do since I wasn’t paying attention to any of the rules. During my shifts, I would go to the bar to pick up the drinks that Chelsie was making for the guests. We didn’t have much time to chat, it was short, but that is when Chelsie and I quickly became close friends. Chelsie asked me to hang out. We went to the beach, strolled through museums, met for drinks (at other restaurants lol)… and were practically inseparable! That’s when we both realized we were more than friends and decided to go on our first date, a play. I was really nervous and wondered if Chelsie felt the same (I would later learn that Chelsie took an hour to pick out her outfit that night)… but I picked her up, (accidentally hit a car) and as the night went on all the nerves went away! *Skip Chapters 3 - 6*
After an unforgettable adventure in Peru together, on a whim we decided to move to Austin. It was then, in that experience, that we grew to really know each other. One thing led to another and we ended up working at the same place again, it was just like the first time we met, I would go to her desk to chat on my “water breaks” and we'd eat lunch on the rooftop before going back to work. Our first year we spent together was like no other, as cliche as it sounds… it all finally made sense. On a vacation to California together, we drove to the middle of nowhere outside of Petaluma, not too far from Napa. We were staying in a treehouse AirBnb and took a drive to the nearest park. The evening was picture perfect, in a field of tall grass while the sun was setting, I asked Chelsie to marry me. Her response… “Are you serious?” and starting crying tears of joy before saying/sobbing “Yes!”
After unforgettable travels, a big move to New York, driving to Pennsylvania to adopt not one, but two cavapoos and meeting each others families, we’re finally ready to make this official! So come join us in Lizzy and Diego’s backyard (thanks guys!) and celebrate what a completely awesome couple we are. The food should be good too.
