Welcome to Our Love Story!

After seeing God's faithfulness for around 7 years, we are finally getting married!

"The Chase"- How We Met

January 2011

Joel's POV: It was my first year of public school, and I was honestly too shy to approach kids at recess who were not connected to my football team. I had usually resorted to playing basketball or touch football outside, but I wanted to branch out and try something different. That is when I noticed Emily playing tag with her friends. I had seen her in the hallway, but I did not have the guts to introduce myself to this pretty blonde-headed girl. I finally got the courage and went up to her to ask if I could play. She said, "only if you can catch me," and then she took off running. There was something about the confidence in her voice and her personality that immediately drew me to her. I could not help myself and took off after her, hoping to catch up to her. Needless to say, after all of the years since that very moment, I am still chasing the heart of that pretty little blonde-headed girl. Emily's POV: Though I did not share Joel's love at first sight experience, even in my young mind, I always knew there was something unique and special about him from the moment I met him. My friends and I were about to play tag at recess when Joel walked up to our group and asked to play. I had seen him a couple of times before but had never thought much of him besides his fiery red hair. At this point in my life, I was still faster than all the boys, so I had no problem letting this new boy play so I could show him up. As Joel said, I took off running, and although he was fast, I left him in the dust. Despite losing that race, he kept playing tag and talking to me. Though he annoyed me at first, we became close friends and eventually more. He was my middle school sweetheart in 7th grade, my high school sweetheart for all 4 years, and now my forever love.

The Engagement

September 21st, 2019

Joel's POV: After years of dating, I believed that it was finally time to take the next step. I wanted a proposal to be something special and meaningful for the both of us. I could not just do any type of proposal for any type of girl. After debating in my head, I was blessed with the opportunity from a good friend of mine to ask her on the field at Death Valley after a Clemson football game. The entire game was something I forget, to be quite honest, because of how nervous I was to ask Emily to marry me. I had a knot in my stomach, and my throat had gone dry. Finally after the game and when all of the fans had left, I walked her out to the 50-yard line as her family and friends watched, and I got down on one knee. I remember telling her that I was nervous, but there was not anyone else I would rather spend my life with. Then, I asked her to marry me. Her saying yes was the best thing that has ever happened to me. Emily's POV: I was distracted by many other things the day of the Clemson vs. UNC-Charlotte football game: my best friend's birthday the night before, running a flag for the first time during pre-game and half-time, and Disney filming the movie "Safety" at the game! Because of those milestone events, it was not at all suspicious for most of my immediate family to be at the game. After the game, we all met at the "N" in the endzone like we normally do, and then we stayed on the field for another half-hour. When the announcement was made for everyone to leave, I was a bit surprised when my mom and everyone else didn't move toward to exit, but I didn't think anything serious of it until Joel walked me to the very middle of the field on the paw. After a minute of anticipation, he dropped to one knee. I squealed and dropped my bag, and, surrounded by a circle of loved ones and Death Valley security, I said yes to our forever.
