Yes, Guatemala can be safe for travelers, but it's important to stay self-aware and use common sense, as you would when traveling anywhere. In Guatemala City, exercise caution by avoiding displaying expensive watches or jewelry to minimize the risk of theft. On the other hand, Antigua is considered very safe. We have never felt in danger there, regardless of the time of day. As long as you use common sense, stay respectful, and remain aware of your surroundings, you can expect to have a wonderful and enjoyable experience in Guatemala.
The city is very walkable. Uber is also easy to use and affordable. Tuc Tucs are another option if you are going a short distance.
It would be a good idea to have a small amount of cash for the trip. Tucs Tucs and many vendors in the market only take cash. There are ATMs located around Antigua in case you need to take out cash.
Antigua is a very walkable city. Wedding ceremony & reception are located at Santa Clara Covenant which is a 5 minute walk from the main square, and a 8 minute walk from Porta Hotel and Pensativo House. Depending on where you stay, it can be anywhere from a 5 minute to 20 minute walk. The roads are made from cobblestone so please watch your step 👀 Ladies in heels, I'm talking you. If you're looking for a ride, Tuk Tuks are your best option as they're quick and inexpensive. Uber is also available, but expect traffic as the roads are narrow and not paved.
Please make sure that your passport has at least 6 months of validity remaining after the date of entry into Guatemala. This is a country requirement. For guests planning to use an American or Colombian passport, you do not need a visa to enter Guatemala.
Guatemala is in the Central Standard Time (CST) zone, just like Texas!
The local currency is Quetzal.
While we love your little ones, our wedding is going to be an adults-only event so that everyone can relax and enjoy the evening. We appreciate you making arrangements ahead of time so that we can celebrate with you.
Our wedding is strictly RSVP only. We are at capacity with our venue which means we are sadly unable to accommodate additional guests. We will only be able to accommodate those listed on your invitation.
We'd love to see our family and friends dress up for our big day. Our wedding dress code is formal attire. We ask gentlemen to wear a suit and tie and ladies to wear long colorful dresses.
