A military parade celebrating the Army's 250th anniversary is currently scheduled to take place in Washington, DC, on June 14, starting at 6 PM and running until 7:30 PM. It will be followed by a concert at the Ellipse (between the White House and the Washington Monument) at 7:30 and fireworks at 9:45 PM. The Madison is about 5 blocks north of the White House and about 10 blocks north of Constitution Avenue (the main parade route). Expect some delays when traveling in the city, particularly from Northern Virginia. We are monitoring the situation closely and will provide updates as we learn more.
WMATA debuted tap-to-pay on May 28, so you can tap your credit or debit card or mobile wallet to enter and exit Metro stations. To ride the bus, you will still need to purchase a physical SmarTrip card (available at any Metro station) or a digital card through your mobile wallet. If you are traveling with children, up to 2 children ages 4 and under can ride the Metro for free with each fare-paying adult.
