Cate's Version: We met our first week of college at USU (go Aggies!) while swing dancing! After that first dance, we found out we lived in the same dorm complex and we became good friends through volleyball, cafeteria dinners, and late night games of fugitive (if you know you know). A year and a half later, covid started and we ended up spending long days studying together... and realized we wanted to be more than friends! Now we have finished college, moved to Virginia, supported each other through medical school and a first job, been to over 19 states and 11 countries together, and are more in love than ever! We are so excited for this next stage of life (hopefully moving back to the west coast for residency and a new job) and are so grateful for your support! Keith's Version: There I was, first week as a freshman at Utah State University, sitting in a common room in my dorm with Jack and Kyle. We had seen a couple groups walk past us talking about heading to the swing dancing event goin on that night. Jack, Kyle, and I decided that we'd go see what this was all about. We loaded up in Kyles truck and drove over to the Logan fun center. We were surprised to see an overloaded parking lot and ton of people heading inside. Once we paid our $5 and got in to the fun center, there was a roller rink packed to the brim with people swing dancing to overly loud country music. The ratio was in our favor as there were probably 75% women in the place. As Jack, Kyle, and I were surveying the room, one girl stood out from the rest. She looked like she was having the time of her life and she had the cutest smile. She seemed to be dancing with someone every song, but finally there was an opportunity and I gained the confidence to go up and ask her to dance. While dancing we made a little bit of small talk and that's when I learned her name is Cate. Cate doesn't remember this moment, but that's the first time we met. Later that year we became part of the same friend group and for the next 2 years we attended a lot of football games, went swing dancing, enjoyed basketball games, played volleyball, and went on a southern Utah spring break trip. Then COVID hit and the rest of the friend group went home. Cate and I started studying together everyday and slowly the studying got less productive. After a couple weeks of not so productive studying I went out on a limb and asked Cate if she wanted to come over to my house and watch a movie. <y movie choice was questionable at best as we watched Tommy Boy, but that's not as bad as finding out Cate had invited her brother Holland to come watch the movie with us. Luckily Holland is better at picking up on context clues than Cate. That night I kissed Cate and haven't stopped since. The next 2 years at USU included lots more swing dancing, getting closer with Cate's brother Holland and now sister-in-law Alex, learning to ski again, taking Cate snowmobiling, started backpacking, and trips back and forth to one another's houses each summer. During the last year of college Cate got accepted at the University of Virginia medical school and after taking a trip with her and her mom to visit the campus, I knew where we'd be living for the next 4 years. The summer before moving to Charlottesville, Virginia, Cate introduced me to the Kartchner's way of vacationing and since then we've been to 11 countries and my intolerance for being uncomfortable has pretty much disappeared. We've lived in Virginia for 4 years now and have made some lifelong friends and memories, with the most memorable one being on October 26th when I proposed to Cate. We aren't sure where the next stage of life will be, but hopefully it is as good as Virginia has been to us.
