Although Jack's crush on Cate started in third grade religious education class, he did not work up the courage to ask her on a date until their junior year of high school. He somehow left a good enough impression to convince her to continue dating long distance while they were both away at college. This period in their relationship consisted of late nights on facetime, interesting Greyhound bus rides to and from one another, and extra special holiday breaks from school. After college, Jack and Cate had one more test of patience and long distance when Cate was based in Denver for her job. It was after what felt like a long six months before they were both back in Geneva enjoying their time with friends and family. It is fitting that their relationship comes to a full circle with them getting married at Saint Peter's church where Jack first laid eyes on Cate.
