Matthew and Catalina met in 2021 in the most “2021” way possible: through an online poetry class during COVID. Matthew was on campus at Our Lady of the Lake University for golf, while Catalina was taking classes remotely from home in Austin. During the 2021 winter storm, Catalina messaged Matthew for help with their poetry homework — a simple message that would end up changing everything. At the time, they only knew each other through Instagram, but that one conversation quickly turned into something neither of them expected. When classes returned to campus that August, Catalina and Matthew finally met in person. What was supposed to be a casual hangout turned into one of those nights neither of them wanted to end. When Catalina opened the door, Matthew immediately checked all the boxes: tall — a detail you can’t exactly confirm over Instagram — dark, and handsome. After staying up talking until 2 a.m., laughing, asking each other countless questions, and getting to know one another, Catalina had a feeling he was someone special. For the next six months, they became inseparable. Even though Matthew insisted he “wasn’t looking for a relationship,” Catalina’s persistence never wavered. Eventually, she gave him an ultimatum: “I can’t be your friend anymore unless we’re together.” Not long after, Matthew asked her to be his girlfriend. Three years later, on March 1, 2026, Matthew proposed in Central Park in New York City. As if the moment wasn’t already magical enough, it began to snow at the perfect time, turning their proposal into something straight out of a movie — and a memory they will cherish forever.
