Matthew and Rachel e-met on Hinge, a dating app. Rachel asked Matt if he was really into yoga. Matt asked Rachel if she was really into traveling, to which she said "Yes. And it's funny you ask because I'm going to Italy tomorrow with my family!" While there, the two stayed in touch on SnapChat and WhatsApp. Rachel sent Matt lots of pictures of her travels. Toward the end of the trip, Matt scheduled a date with Rachel for just a few days after her return. Matt and Rachel met in person for the first time at a wine bar. Once she arrived, Rachel decided she was tired of wine after a week and a half in Italy, so they both had whisky. The two chatted for hours, kissed and agreed to see each other again.
Not long after meeting, Matt told Rachel that he was lucky enough to have tickets to hike Halfdome in Yosemite. Matt had the hiking trip already planned with a group of his friends. When one group member dropped out, Matt offered Rachel the chance to take their ticket. The two hadn't known each other very long when these last minute changes were made. Rachel wasn't sure what to do but it seemed like a once in a lifetime chance and a risk worth taking. So she booked her flight to Reno and made plans to join. There, she met several of Matt's friends who were also camping and hiking. The group had an experience of a lifetime camping, exploring nature. The day of the big hike, everyone woke up at 3 am so they could summit Halfdome by sunrise. The hike took all day, and all the leg power Rachel and Matt had to give! A hike of this size and a trip of this nature seemed to solidify that these two were pretty compatible. They both saw in one another similar traits and a similar adventurous nature. And so, in September of 2016 they became official!
Matthew and Rachel began discussing living situations and the pros and cons of renting a place versus buying one in 2017. After much back and forth, the two decided... "well let's just buy a house together!" (It was that easy, we promise.) Wanting to be close to both downtown Denver and the mountains, Matt chose the perfect neighborhood, Sunnyside. Deciding that a new build was the way to go, Rachel and Matt put down earnest money and watched their dream-townhome grow more and more real. Rachel and Matt closed and got the keys to their first house in February of 2018 and have been living there happily since then with their sweet, yet quirky, black cat, Jynxy.
