Things To Do

Got some time to kill before Sunday? Want some Austin recommendations from some Austinites? Here are some things in Austin that we love, and think you will too!

Casino El Camino

517 East 6th Street, Austin, TX 78701
, (512) 469-9330

A horror movie/heavy metal-themed bar that serves the best burger in town, PLUS its haunted... Needless to say, its John's favorite spot in Austin.

Zilker Park

2207 Lou Neff Road, Austin, TX 78746
, (512) 974-6700

An iconic green space where you can relax with an amazing view of the city. On a typical Sunday morning you can find John and Jenn playing a round of disc golf at Zilker's course.

Eeyore's Birthday in Pease Park

100 Kingsbury St, Austin, TX 78703, Austin, TX 78703

If you want to experience a piece of old-school "weird Austin," this annual festival has been going on for six decades and is every bit the weirdo-hippie-Summer of Love-counterculture celebration it was back then. It will be on Saturday, April 30th. Nothing to do with Winnie the Pooh, everything to do with strange costumes, live music, drum circles, and body paint. Not for children!

Barton Springs Municipal Pool

2131 William Barton Dr, Austin, TX 78746
, (512) 974-6300

Part of the 360 acre Zilker Park complex, this municipal pool is built into the creek and fed from natural springs - its temperature is perfect year round, so consider packing a swim suit!

Kayaking on Lady Bird Lake

1541 West Cesar Chavez Street, Austin, TX 78703
, (512) 467-7799

The river that runs through the middle of Austin is technically a "river-like reservoir" called Lady Bird Lake. On a nice day it's full of canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards, and for good reason - it's the best way to experience the views of Austin's skyline if you row east, and the views of the hills and cliffs if you row west. Texas Rowing Center is John and Jenn's preferred rental spot.

Peter Pan Mini Golf

1207 Barton Springs Road, Austin, TX 78704
, (512) 472-1033

This old Austin staple is a BYOB mini-golf course. Nothing more to say!

Lazarus Brewing Co.

1902 East 6th Street, Austin, TX 78702
, (512) 394-7620

The local brewery scene can be overwhelming - there's quite a few good ones, but Lazerus is the one we return to most often! It's a good place to get acquainted with some local beer, and it's got a great patio. If cocktails are more your thing, Jenn and John's favorite cocktail bar, Whisler's, is right across the street.

Blanton Museum of Art

200 East Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard, Austin, TX 78712
, (512) 471-5482

The Blanton at UT-Austin contains some unbelievable works of art from around the world and throughout history. One of the largest campus art museums in the country, there's plenty of room to get lost for a couple of hours. (John was not going to let this list go without a museum rec)

Quack's 43rd Street Bakery

411 East 43rd Street, Austin, TX 78751
, (512) 453-3399

Quacks Bakery is the go-to spot if you’re looking for a coffee and sweet treat. John and Jenn have come to be regulars since moving-in around the corner. Quacks will also be providing the wedding cake for the reception. Stop by if you want a preview of their delicious desserts!

For all the days along the way
