How We Met

sometime in 2004...

Some remember us reconnecting during a Halloween party in 2013...but if you wanna count the actual way we met, we'll have to take you a bit farther back.. One day in 2004, when Cassie was about 12 years old, her dad, Alex, took her to the Fresno Amtrak. I was going to travel up North to visit my mom and stepdad for the Summer. While waiting for the train, my dad immediately noticed another dad there with his son. If you know Alex, then you know Mr. Cautious naturally went up to him to ask how safe the train was. While standing there, I looked over and saw a boy about my age staring down at the ground, while the dads jabbered away. When the train approached, my dad told me I had to sit next to this kid. They walked us on and sat us on the first floor of the cab. My dad kissed me goodbye and said his famous line "Be aware of your surroundings". For a whole hour, this boy and I said nothing. Two awkward, preteens just staring at the floor. Then, the first thing he asks me, "Do you want some gummy bears?". I remember laughing a little and saying "hell yeah". There was 3.5 more hours to go, naturally we caused havoc for the next couple of hours running up and down the train until the conductor found us and sat us down at a table. An older lady joined our table and we played cards for the rest of the ride to Sacramento. Once we got there, I told him to meet me outside so he can meet my family, but I couldn't find him in the crowd...my new friend gone. Fast forward to 2006, freshman year. Ceramics. I had to go finish a project after school, and as many know, I was a pretty quiet, shy kid. I noticed a boy at another table, looking over constantly and remember turning beet red. I finished my project super quick and got in line to sign out. Well this dude followed me right in the line.. I bolted out of the class, but this tall guy was right there. He hollered "hey! sorry but can I ask you something?" I turned around and said, "ya, what's up". He kinda smirked at me, " Do you remember riding on a train a couple years ago with a chubby quiet kid?"... I looked up and yelled, "Gummy Bears!!!". He laughed and said, "I'm Zach". High School, we were really close friends. Senior year in 2010, I had a huge crush on him. However, someone beat me to it and that just wasn't meant to be. So I left for college and that was that. In 2012, for a brief moment we had both broken up with our exes and were single, we texted each other, I came to visit Kingsburg and we even went on a date to Sonic. Hopeful, maybe this time was our time. But we both ended up going back to other people. Summer 2013, I left San Diego and moved back to Chico. Free and doing my thang. My sister Briana text me they were having a Halloween party, and I hadn't visited for awhile so I made the trip down. I remember dressing as Flo from Progressive, that was the best last minute costume I could think of. While at the party I get a text from Zach. I was so surprised and excited when I read a text saying "Single Life". I said come to Bri's house! He said "I'm already here!" I look up, and this tall crush of mine was walking towards me smiling. Even though he was fresh off the market, I wasn't letting him go. Still haven't and don't plan to.

The Proposal

12*5*2021

It's Cassie's 30th birthday and she had a small secret at that time. We just found out, she was pregnant with our sweet Zoë girl. Kind of limited a big, night out. However, a beach get away is always just as good. Relaxing was just what the doc ordered at that time. They went to their favorite beaches on the central coast. Morro Bay then Los Osos. As they drove back to Morro Bay from Los Osos, Zach pulls the truck over and says "Wanna go walk down that trail?". Cass looks over .. about 3 months pregnant. "Not really dude...". Insistent, we get out anyways and walk a mile and a half down a trail .... in jeans... On the bright side, it was a super beautiful day. We get to the end of the trail and find a bench next to a cliff looking out at the ocean. After a bit of time just chatting and relaxing a hiker walks by. To Cassie's surprise, Zach asks her to take a picture. You can guess the rest ;)
