The Nelson Adkins Museum of Art is a world-class art Museum right in the heart of Kansas City. Just a short walk from the Hotel Indigo, you will be able to hop on the newly extended Kansas City Streetcar, and take a ride south right down main street to the Country Club Plaza, where you can take a quick walk to the Museum just to the east. Both the streetcar and admission to the museum are free of charge! Art not your thing? Don't worry, the Country Club Plaza is one of America's oldest outdoor shopping centers, and has great shopping and restaurant options for you to check out as well, all set in a beautiful Spanish-Revival style shopping district. Need a place for the little ones to explore? Look no further! Science City is a children's science museum located in Kansas City's historic union station. It features exhibits tailored in a wide variety of STEM subjects that are both fun and educational for the whole family! Science city was also one of Matt's favorite places to visit as a kid growing up when visiting his aunt and uncle, and has only continued to grow and improve. Union Station (yes, the same one they show during all the Chief's games and pictured at the top of the page) is an attraction into and of itself. Beautifully restored, the station has been the front door of Kansas City for over 100 years, and also features a planetarium , theater, and typically hosts a traveling exhibit (on top of still being a functioning train station).
Want to have that authentic Kansas City Barbeque experience? Slaps Barbeque in Kansas City, Kansas features the best ribs you will find in the City (on either side of the state line). Get your barbeque fix first and then stop in the Historic west bottoms on your way back to explore this revived historic warehouse district reborn—where gritty red‑brick history meets modern creativity. Sit-down style restaurants more your thing? Q39 BBQ is another great option, serving up the best BBQ beef brisket and smoked wings you will ever find, in a full restaurant-style setting.
If you need a break from the city, or need somewhere to take the pooch to run around in the morning, Shawnee Mission park is a great choice! With acres of hiking trails, and a large off leash dog area, its a great place to get a little break from the city and relax. This is also where Matt proposed to Cassie (with Hallie's help).
