Travel Note
Best Airport Options: 1. John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) – New York City * 2.5–3 hours drive * Direct flights from London (Heathrow & Gatwick) * Often cheaper than flying directly into Connecticut 2. Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) * 2.5 hours drive * Good backup option with many direct flights from the UK 3. Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) – New Jersey * 2.5 hours drive * Also has direct flights from the UK * Accessible by train or car 4. Bradley International Airport (BDL) – Hartford, Connecticut * 40 minutes drive to Middletown * Easiest and closest airport * Flights from UK usually require a connection (via NYC, Chicago, or DC) Apply for ESTA visa waiver online: https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov Tip: JFK is usually the best mix of convenience and price for direct flights. If you're looking for the shortest travel time, consider connecting through a US hub into Bradley. Car Hire Driving is the easiest way to get around, especially if you're flying into JFK, Boston, or Newark. * All major airports have car rental desks (Avis, Hertz, Enterprise, Budget, etc.) * UK drivers can rent cars with a valid UK licence * Cars are automatic by default in the US Tip: Book in advance to get better rates. Consider a sat nav (GPS) or use your phone for maps. Mobile/Cell Phones & Data 1. International Roaming Plans * Check with your UK provider about US roaming packages. * Some offer daily roaming 2. eSIM or Prepaid SIM * Buy a US eSIM before you go. (For example: Saily) * Alternatively, pick up a prepaid SIM from T-Mobile or AT&T once in the US. Spending in the US * Credit/debit cards are widely accepted—contactless tap-to-pay works on UK cards. * Carrying a small amount of cash ($50–100) is useful for tips, small purchases, etc. * You can exchange money at the airport or withdraw USD from ATMs in the US. Accommodation We’ll be sharing accommodations soon!
