Our Story

Back in August 2020, I was living in Manhattan, Kansas where I moved for work after graduating from OU in May 2019. Clayton had just moved back to Manhattan to start his final year of his Bachelor's Degree at K-State. We matched on a dating app right after Clayton moved back, and decided to go on our first date to Tap House on August 18, 2020. We sat at the rooftop bar and drank sangria until we finally realized the restaurant was closing and we needed to leave. Ten days later on August 28, we were officially "boyfriend and girlfriend" (and I updated my Facebook relationship status, lol). We spent the next several months going on more dates, meeting each other's friends, and getting to know each other. Several of our dates were spent at Frank Anneberg Park, just a short walk away from my apartment, where we would sit under the trees by the pond drinking wine. For Thanksgiving, Clayton was supposed to come to St. Louis with me and meet my family for the first time. I ended up getting Covid, having to miss Thanksgiving with my family, and Clayton decided to move in with me for my two-week quarantine. We spent our first Thanksgiving together in my tiny one-bedroom apartment, just the two of us, and it's still one of my favorite memories to this day. However, my favorite part of this story is that he never actually moved out of my apartment after my quarantine, and we've spent pretty much every day together since then. In January 2021, I asked my boss if I could transfer to our Kansas City office since Clayton would be moving that way for his job once he graduated. Then we spent our first Valentine's Day looking at apartments in Kansas City. By May 2021, we "officially" moved in together to our first apartment in Olathe, Kansas. Almost four years later, we still live in Olathe, but now we live in our first home we bought together in March 2022 with our two dogs, Theo & Molly. Clayton proposed the day before our third anniversary on August 27, 2023 in front of The Nelson-Atkins Museum in Kansas City. He proposed under the trees on the front lawn that he thought resembled our dates in Manhattan sitting under the trees at Frank Anneberg Park. He also surprised me by having some of our family at the proposal, and we all went to dinner at Cooper's Hawk afterward. I remember thinking over and over again at dinner how lucky I was while drinking too much wine. We finished the night at the Goo Goo Dolls concert of all places. We'll be engaged for a little over two years before we get married on October 4, 2025, over five years after we first started dating. We are especially grateful to be able to celebrate this milestone with all of our family and friends. You all are a big part of our story, and we hope to see you in October!
