Question

What are the different ceremonies in a Hindu wedding?

Answer

In addition to the main wedding ceremony, there are several ceremonies: - Haldi: Turmeric paste, believed to be cleansing, will be applied to the bride and groom by family and friends in separate ceremonies. - Mehendi and sangeet: a ladies only event. Ladies may have henna applied to their hands and arms by a henna artist. General merriment with dance and music will ensue. - Groom's procession: the groom is accompanied by family and friends to the wedding venue. More music and dancing ensue. Traditionally in Bihar, India, these additional ceremonies are smaller, intimate events (by Indian standards). We expect around 150 guests for the wedding ceremony in Delhi. The reception in Bihar will be larger (around 2000 people).
