The story begins in Madrid, where Cassie & I taught abroad for the 2019-2020 school year. During orientation, I met Carolina (Cassie’s childhood best friend) and we became friends right away. Synchronicity #1: A couple weeks later, Carolina and I planned to meet up for our lunch break, since our school placements were in the same town. She asked if she could bring her roommate, Cassie, so that was the first day we met. A few days later, we celebrated my birthday, along with some other friends, and Cassie came along, even though we barely knew each other yet. Synchronicity #2: Late October, Cassie & I took a day trip with two friends to Toledo, an ancient medieval city, also the former Spanish capital. On this trip we bonded over spirituality, the law of attraction, and our special connection to our grandpas. We were both lit up by the conversations we’d had. I was so excited to have shared in kindred connection, something I felt was missing since I arrived in Spain. Synchronicity #3: Flash forward to January, when Cassie and I went to London for New Year’s. During that trip, we were always joking around and Cassie made fun of my midwestern accent. I began to sense this magnetism between us, and I had a deeper knowing that there was something special here. As we walked the streets of London and Westminster, I kept seeing the number 14 show up on doors and buses, which I later found out represents love. I remember looking up its significance, and one website in particular said, “if you keep seeing 14 lately, your love life is about to reach fever pitch. You will soon embark on a journey that will lead you to the person you will spend the rest of your life with. Whether you’re ready for love or not, it sure looks like love will find you very soon!” I thought — Cassie? Nahh.. We’re barely just getting to know one another. I had shared this meaning with her, and later found out she’d experienced a sinking feeling upon hearing the message, realizing I would probably be meeting someone else. Little did she know! Our connection continued to unfold so naturally. One night after a dinner of tapas, I told Cassie how I felt about her. We started dating a few weeks later in February. We hung out as much as possible, both with and without our friend group. But because we were secretly dating, it felt like we didn’t have enough time together, and so we wished for more. Synchronicity #4: We then became inseparable— quite literally, as we were quarantined together. Our wish for more time had been granted! A few weeks turned into 3 months. Living together right off the bat was the real test to see if we were a true match. We both passed the test. 😉 When Europe opened back up, we traveled to the island of Mallorca, and then Santorini. These trips were so dreamy and felt like we were already honeymooning. Our love story has been more synchronistic and beautiful than I could’ve imagined. From our beginning chapter in Madrid, to living in Mexico and then back to Spain again, it’s been filled with adventure. I love living this life with you, Cass. I love the life we’re dreaming up and I can’t wait to see where it leads us next! I am more than thrilled to celebrate our union in one of the most special places in the world. <3 ¡Mexico, nos vemos pronto! 🇲🇽
