Hotel

The Green Room Hotel

2020 South Coast Highway, Oceanside, CA 92054

We did not block rooms here but just wanted to offer this as an idea since it's a local hotel with good access to the areas we will be hanging out. South O is the cool part of Oceanside.

Flight

San Diego International Airport (SAN)

San Diego airport might be the most obvious airport choice. There are the usual rental car options but also access to a nice train that drops off in the coastal towns north of SD to Oside.

Flight

John Wayne Airport (SNA)

The John Wayne Airport is in Orange County. The airport code is SNA which stands for Santa Anna and can be easily confused with San Diego's SAN code. Just be careful which airport code you use. On the upside, if you accidentally land in SNA instead of SAN, you're not far from Oceanside. Oside is a similar distance to John Wayne Airport or the San Diego Airport. One downside to John Wayne is there's no train access from the airport to Oside since a recent mudslide closed the train track in San Clemente. The drive to/from John Wayne can be VERY nice if you take the coast highway through Laguna Beach and Dana Point. If you fly in/out of John Wayne, consider checking out: The view above Dana Point Harbor - https://maps.app.goo.gl/jAvdEgQTcVjqaECr8 Surfers at the SoCal classic Doheny Beach - https://maps.app.goo.gl/zbRyzjm165mTtSvE8 There are many spectacular beaches in Laguna but Woods Cove is a great one - https://maps.app.goo.gl/Xmzcj7SHrMEfSHYu7 San Juan Capistrano, one of the beautiful Spanish missions - https://maps.app.goo.gl/CWYZ4BZSL9Zz2R7QA Beach view rest stop as you drive south through Camp Pendleton on I5. You might see my brother Zach flying his Osprey around here or other Marines doing exercises. - https://maps.app.goo.gl/wtitrSfK6wqxDQHo7

Flight

Los Angeles International (LAX)

The infamous LAX would certainly have the most direct flight and international options. But ye be warned: it's LAX. One would get a car and drive down from LA, not a bad idea if you want to see what Los Angeles is about.

Train

Coaster or Surfliner Trains

The train system that runs up and down the San Diego coast is better than average for American public transit. The train cars are usually very clean, on time, relaxed, inexpensive, and have comfortable tables with ocean views from the upper level. It is possible to take the train up and down the coast to/from the SD airport to the coastal towns. The train does not stop directly at the airport but at the "Old Town" stop nearby. There's a free shuttle bus that runs between the airport and the "Old Town" San Diego train stop; it's a really short hop, maybe 10-15 min shuttle. The train beats the heck out of uber/lyft/taxi cabs in my opinion. The train is faster than driving too when there's a traffic jam on the highway. One pays for train rides via the "Pronto" app or by purchasing a "pronto" card from a kiosk on the train platform. It costs about $7 to ride the train from SD to Oside. Compare that to uber/lyft/rental car. If our guests are riding the train, I'd imagine y'all would get off at the Carlsbad Village stop or the Oceanside stop. Then get a quick car ride from the platform to wherever you're staying. If you use google maps to navigate and switch it "public transit" route options, it will show you the coast train timing.
