Casie was eleven when she stepped off the plane from the Philippines and into her very first Canadian summer. New country, new everything. That year at Bible camp in Red Deer, she struggled to make the English words fit her tongue, and the other kids (like kids sometimes do) teased her for it. One afternoon during a camp game, she and a boy named Ethan ended up on the same team. Every time it was his turn, Casie cheered at the top of her lungs: “Go, Eaten! Go, Eaten!” The laughter was instant. On the long ride home that night, while everyone else slept or listened to music, she sat by the window and practiced in a whisper: “Eaten… Etan… Eth-an… Ethan.” She said it over and over until the name finally sounded right, not because she knew the boy, but because she wanted to get it right. Camp ended, years passed, and their paths crossed only in passing smiles and quick hellos. Then came August 2022. Another year of Camp Joy, years later. Casie was washing dishes in the kitchen when Ethan walked in, flashed that same teasing grin, and started joking around. For the first fifteen minutes she tried her very best to ignore him (she really did). But his laugh was warm, his words were kind (kinda), and soon she was laughing too, sneaking glances, hoping he’d stay just a little longer. That week they looked for every excuse to be near each other. Something quiet and certain stirred in both of them, though neither dared call it love just yet. When camp ended, Ethan slid into her Instagram DMs, “I get to wear shorts finally! It’s so hot.” One odd message turned into hours of talking every single day. Months flew by in late-night conversations, shared playlists, and prayers sent across the distance. Finally, Casie gathered her courage: “I need to know… do you actually like me, or are we just really good friends?” (It kinda went like that) His answer came fast and sure: “Casie, I’ve liked you since camp” (something like that, can’t remember the exact words) From that moment on, they chose each other every day. Through hard seasons, long distances, doubts, and growth, they kept showing up, kept forgiving, kept praying, kept loving. The little girl who once practiced saying “Ethan” for hours is about to take his name for the rest of her life. And the boy who was once called “Eaten” can’t wait to call her his wife. “What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder” — Mark 10:9 Ethan & Casie Forever starts now.
