Of course we have to put this on the list... if you're up for a challenge, this one's for you! Our favorite route: Park at Roaring Brook Campground, hike to Chimney Pond and then take Cathedral to Baxter Peak. From Baxter peak, we like to take either Hamlins Ridge down (gorgeous views) or we go the opposite way across Knifes Edge and down Helon Taylor. Either way, you'll be beat...but it'll be worth it!
One of our favorite things to do! Grab your own floats or rent them at the Abol Bridge Store (they have a shuttle service). If you bring your own floats, you'll want to put in just below Nesowadnehunk Falls and take out just after going under Abol Bridge on the left hand side of the river. Make sure to take out directly after the bridge on the left or you'll be headed towards white water!
In the mood to just chill? Check out Abol Beach! Head up the Golden Road and turn left just after crossing Abol Bridge. About quarter of a mile down the dirt road, you can find Abol Beach on the left. Great place to watch white water rafters and swim!
Beautiful hike if you're looking for something a little shorter. It's 1.2 miles one way. Park at the Katahdin Stream Campground in Baxter State Park.
We would tell you where to go, but you know what we'd have to do then... if you're into fishing, pull out a map and go wild!
