Whether you want to dance in the fields and sing like Maria did in the Sound of Music, or simply drink a beer in their Austrian style brewery, the Von Trapp Family Lodge is a must see for first time Stowe visitors. In the early 1940s, the von Trapp family toured the United States as the Trapp Family Singers before eventually settling in Stowe, Vermont on an enchanted farm with sweeping mountain vistas reminiscent of their beloved Austria.
There are a TON of hiking options to get outside and enjoy the beautiful area. Mount Mansfield is the mountain that Stowe Mountain and Smugglers' Notch share. It is the highest peak in Vermont. The hiking guide provided in the link has a lot of great options, both short and long, that will provide you with great views. Another way to see the sights is to ride the gondola up the mountain. There are also trails right from Smugglers' Notch Resort. Please be aware that the suggested times it takes to do the hikes are fairly accurate so plan accordingly. We hiked the Long Trail to the Chin and despite Casey practically running up the mountain and setting a blazing pace, it still took us well over 3 hours....and we were sore for at least 2 days after!!
For a nicer, dressier dinner place, this is a restaurant that comes highly recommended.
