Things To Do

We're so excited to celebrate with you in one of our favorite places on earth — the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Spider Lake and the Hayward area have so much to offer, so whether you're making a weekend of it or just passing through, here are some of our favorite ways to enjoy the area.

Eating & Drinking Downtown Hayward

Hayward punches well above its weight for a small town. A few favorites: Angler's Bar & Grill — the spot for a traditional (and world-famous) Wisconsin Fish Fry with a classic Old Fashioned. The Ranch — a long-time locally owned supper club with relish trays and old fashioneds, classic Northwoods through and through. Angry Minnow Brew Pub — a great historic building, house-brewed beer, and creative pub food. They sometimes have live music too. Moccasin Bar — a Hayward institution and a must-stop. Known for its legendary taxidermy collection and classic Northwoods dive bar charm.

On the Water

The Hayward area is loaded with lakes for swimming, kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding, boating, water skiing, and tubing, plus the Namekagon River offers a genuine wilderness paddling experience.

Hiking & Biking

The Birkie Trail system stretches over 100 kilometers and draws hikers, bikers, runners, and trekkers of all levels. The Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, Fairyland State Natural Area, and Drummond Woods State Natural Area are all worth exploring if you want to get deep into the Northwoods.

Golf

Big Fish Golf Club is an 18-hole championship course designed by Pete Dye, rated one of the best in Northern Wisconsin, blending traditional links design with Northwoods scenery. Spider Lake Golf Club and Telemark Golf Course are also nearby for a more relaxed round.
