We met at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, specifically, through a college ministry we were both a part of. He and I had mutual friends, so in a way we were friends by association. He was on the ministry's step team, along with some of my friends, so I used to come to the practices. After one practice, my best friend mentioned that whoever ends up with him is going to be lucky, and I said, "Thanks!" Of course, this was just meant to be a joke, but it turned into a reality. I began praying over my feelings for him and telling the Lord about my interest in him. I didn't know it, but Darren was doing the same thing. Without being aware of this, we would both show up to places we knew the other person would most likely be, just to "casually" run into one another and catch up. This went on for months. We were both shy to admit our feelings to each other. Well, on April 15th, 2021, after our ministry's weekly service, he took me aside to have a casual conversation with me. Or so I thought. But after a friend asked if we were finished talking yet, he said not yet, and I realized that he must have had something important to share. He began to admit to me that he thought I was very beautiful and that he wanted to get to know me better. I gave him my number, and that night I was so nervous but very excited. He says that he walked away one of the happiest people on the planet that day. Ever since then, we have literally texted or talked every single day. In November of 2022, I admitted to him that I could not imagine him not being in my life,. He asked me "So does that mean you would marry me one day?" And I said, "Yea I would!" He told me he felt the same way. We dated for years, until March 14th, 2025, when he proposed and we became fiancées. Now the dream of marrying each other that we talked about years ago is happening soon!
