Kounter is a great local restaurant owned by award winning chef Rob Masone. Kounter is located at the site of the Friendship Nine's 1961 sit-in. 9 Young African American students from nearby Friendship Junior College staged a sit-in at the segregated lunch counter of McCrory’s Five and Dime. These young men were immediately arrested after ordering their food and sentenced to pay a $100 fine each or spend 30 days in jail. They chose jail. This event and how they were subsequently treated, including hard labor twice that of the white prisoners and solitary confinement, gained national attention. At Kounter we honor the memory of the “Friendship 9”, their courage and applaud Rock Hill’s motto:vNo Room For Racism. *We highly recommend their Cheerwine Sangria, and if you can, sit at the bar. Make sure to walk down the hallway to the left of the restaurant to learn more about the history.*
The Merc, as we love to call it, is not just the site of our wedding and reception, but a great place to shop, grab coffee or a snack, or even a beer or glass of wine. The owners, Brittany and Michael, have become like family to us. Their kid is our go-to babysitter :) Pick up a great gift or searcy for yourself and explore their DIY candle and soap bar, or pick up some fresh flowers. Tell them you're in town for the wedding!
Millstone Pizza and Rock Hill Brewing, located right next to each other, are great places for lunch, dinner, or a drink! Rock Hill Brewing was one of the first local breweries to open in Old Town, and have a great selection of local brews.
Player1 Up is a newer find of ours but we love it. It's a great arcade bar with snacks and games for everyone! It's located below Main Street in Rock Hill, across the street from Kounter. It's kid friendly before 9 p.m., and serves great drinks.
