Picture this: two dorky teenagers who happened to get seated next to each other in study hall. Casey spoke first, but we were promptly scolded for talking. Luckily, as it turns out, we both liked to draw! We became fast friends, spending those free periods passing notes and silly doodles back and forth. After a year we started seeing each other outside of school, attending the high school play and an art show Casey’s drawings were featured in. Eventually, Bruce got the courage to ask her out officially, gifting her with a poem he wrote as well as his class ring. So sweet! From study hall pals to close friends to partners, we’re still going strong nearly 10 years later!
Bruce and our friend Ashley had to pull off quite a scheme to make this propossal happen! He managed to make it so special despite the many hiccups. See, he originally wanted to organize a trip to Florida in 2020 for our proposal but that fell through due to COVID-19. His plan B was to stage a winter wonderland of sorts to serve as the backdrop for the big question. He invisioned fairy lights and freshly fallen snow, but the weather refused to cooperate. Finally, he settled on proposing at one of Casey's favorite places in the world - Cape Henlopen State Park. Due to Bruce's memory problems, his priority was getting pictures of our proposal. Even if, in many years, he can't remember the details, he'll always have photos to look back on. Our friend Ashley is a photographer, and played a vital role in pulling off the plan. The two of them had to be so sneaky while they coordinated! Bruce's big idea was to have her invite us to do a photoshoot down at the beach for the day. She's asked Casey to model in the past, so this would be nothing out of the ordinary. So on August 16, 2021, we drove to Delaware with Ashley and her camera in tow. As she directed Casey to pose in front of the water, Bruce knelt to ask the big question. And of course, I said yes!
