Yes! Go ahead and book a flight that flies into SJO airport. We recommend arriving at the SJO airport by 3pm on Feb. 13, and flying out Feb 17 (President's day holiday!) - this will ensure you are here for all activities. Of course you're welcome to fly in earlier or later depending on your travel schedules! Flights to Costa Rica can vary in price a lot. We recommend setting up a flight alert to let you know when it's a good time to buy from your area.
YES! February is high tourist season in Costa Rica, and rooms get booked fast. We've set up a few hotel blocks, and our wedding planner will help you find the perfect accommodations for you. We also have several recommendations in several different price points, under the travel tab.
Our venue is very limited in size, so our ceremony and reception are adults-only. However, Costa Rica is a fantastic place to vacation with the whole fam! All of the other activities we're planning are kid-friendly, and we're working on arranging a babysitter for Saturday night during the ceremony and reception. If you're bringing your children, please reach out to Casey or Baris so we can get a headcount for the babysitter and make arrangements!
The trip from SJO to Quepos is around a 3 hour drive. If you're arriving on the 13th and leaving on the 17th, we will be arranging shuttles. We may be arranging shuttles on other days as well, depending on the number of guests arriving each day. Please update our travel spreadsheet with your flight info once you book so we can help arrange the shuttles. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/17nna_wjSI8_9BLSqYmOwLPiL4mg_LMkrpdys1PbiXMw/edit?usp=sharing
Not if you're using our airport shuttle and staying in Quepos for your whole trip! If you're planning to explore other parts of Costa Rica, renting a car is the best way to do it. Driving in Costa Rica is very easy! Casey and Melissa managed it just fine during their February 2019 trip ;)
You do not need a visa if you're an American or Turkish citizen. You DO need to make sure that your passport is valid for at least 6 months after your travel date!!
YES! If you are driving, make sure you have around $10 worth of Costa Rican colones. Most of the tolls are around 250 colones, and they WILL NOT make change from large bills (either US or Costa Rican). Make sure you change some money at the airport before starting your driving journey! If you're riding our shuttle, you don't need to worry about this.
If your cell phone carrier has a roaming agreement with Costa Rica, you can use your phone, BUT roaming charges will get expensive. You can purchase a pre-paid SIM card at the airport. This really depends on what you are buying. Most places will accept US dollars (in VERY GOOD condition, no rips, folds), but you will get change back in colones. This is very confusing. Casey and her mom rented a car with no problems, but it gets expensive, so do your research! We had to take a shuttle bus for a 10 minute drive from the airport to get to our rental car agency. Here is a link to a recent article on renting a car in Costa Rica. They offer a discount to Adobe Rental Car, which is local and is one of their partners.https://mytanfeet.com/about-cr/renting-a-car-in-costa-rica-tips/
