The first time Alex technically saw Casey was back in 2014 at City Bar in downtown Baton Rouge. Casey was out with her friends Goldie and Iris after a Southern University football game. As the night wrapped up and the girls were heading home, Alex walked over to say hello to Goldie (they attended Southern Lab at the same time; Casey came along later). As soon as Alex approached the group, he asked Goldie, the now-iconic question: “Who is that?”... referring to Casey. Goldie filled him in, but at the time, Casey appeared a bit… preoccupied. In fact, to this day, Casey has no memory of this encounter, but Goldie and Iris do...Lol, sorry, Alex. Fast forward to 2018. Casey comes across Alex on the infamous Instagram and immediately notices how handsome he is (had to be said). She likes a few photos, slides into the DMs, and introduces herself, completely unaware that Alex already knew exactly who she was. Alex wastes no time and asks her out. Casey, immediately, says YES! Now, if you talk to Alex, he will tell you what she said in her corny-cute DM, and has always said they will play the song, "It goes down in the DM's" at the wedding (eye roll) LOL! Their first date was set for April 20, 2018, at Sullivan’s in Baton Rouge. Naturally, Casey tells her mom and aunt about the date, and they both respond with the same question: “You’re going on a date with Trey?” Casey replies, “Who is that?” Casey’s mom then proceeds to explain exactly who he is, and who his family is. Casey quickly realizes she already knew of Alex’s mom from her days as a Fabulous Dancing Doll and had unknowingly made the connection via Instagram. Despite being eight years apart in age, their lives had been orbiting the same circles for years… they just hadn’t collided yet. The date was going great. Alex ordered a Grand Marnier, Casey had a lemon drop, and the conversation flowed effortlessly. At one point, Alex looked at Casey and asked, “Can I kiss you?” Now Casey, who is extra shy in public, actually said, “YES!” And the rest is history. Now for the details that make everyone say, “Wait… WHAT?” So, Casey’s maternal grandfather was best friends with Alex’s paternal grandfather, who always took Alex to his house to play with Casey’s uncles. Casey's mom did her student teaching under the principalship of Alex's grandmother. Casey’s dad and Alex’s parents all attended Southern Lab together. Casey’s mom and dad went to Southern University alongside Alex’s mom and dad. Still not enough? Alex’s mom was a Fabulous Dancing Doll, just like Casey, under the band direction of Casey’s paternal grandfather, Dr. Isaac Greggs. And to top it all off, Alex’s mom was a member of the Alpha Tau Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta… just like Casey. Crazy, right? Despite all these deep family connections, Casey and Alex never met, until the timing was exactly right. After nearly eight years together, navigating life’s ups and downs, growing, learning, and choosing each other every day, they are now ready to spend the rest of their lives together. And that, friends and family, is a true love story
