How We Met (Nick's Version)

Who even are these people?

It all started with a card game. That's right. We met playing Magic: The Gathering. I decided to attend draft night on a whim back in October of 2016. I didn't know anybody there but this girl waved me over to her table, so I sat with her and her friends while we waited for the event to start. We were drafting the Kaladesh expansion, as was the style at the time. I ended up coming in first place that night. The girl I had sat with said I should come back to draft again the next week. So I did. And the week after that. She was there every time. Probably not a coincidence, looking back on it. One week she asked if I wanted to get ramen afterward. I said "sure, I guess" so we went out for noodles. We talked a lot and then I didn't walk her to her car. Apparently it was a very successful date. She invited me to a gathering at a friend's place for more card games and some recreational drinking. So I went. We sat next to each other and she stroked my arm all night. Kind of weird, huh? It worked though. She asked if she could put her number in my phone. So she did, entered under the name "Ar4el" as only a thoroughly intoxicated person could manage. It's still like that in my contact list. I never let her correct it after she sobered up. We ended up spending a lot more time together. Like, lots more. We even moved into a little apartment together in 2019. Then a global pandemic immediately happened and nobody was allowed to leave their homes. Let me be clear. It was a one bedroom apartment and we hadn't ever lived together before and now we weren't allowed to go anywhere or see anyone else. What could go wrong? So we got a dog. We named him Faelen. It was actually the name he came with, but we liked it. Now there were three of us in a little apartment. And it was still fine, actually. So fine that we bought another place to live. Together. And then another dog. But I'm getting ahead of myself. We went on a lovely vacation with my family to Hawaii in 2023. Ariel didn't know it but it was going to be her favorite vacation ever. I had purchased a ring just before hand and planned to give it to her. In that surprise way that says "I bet I can put up with you forever". And she loved it. She said yes, obviously. So here we are. Basically a whole decade later, finally getting around to making things official. Won't you join us for this momentous occasion?
